Our life aboard the BlueBelle

St Maarten- We made it!

May 7th, 2022 Simpson Bay, St. Maarten @ anchor

We’ve made it.  We set out to buy a boat, and we had the good intentions of sailing it to St Maarten since before we could call it ours, in order to anchor and fly back to California for our friends’ wedding.  There was a long period of time when it felt like we might not make it, but since the signing of the loan papers, and the international transfer of 6 figures of money (we think), the Tintas has become our vessel, and we’ve sailed 265 nautical miles in the span of less than a week.  We passed through 5 countries, (Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis), and anchored in the past hour at Simpson Bay, St Maarten (the dutch side of St Martin).

We intend to share our updates and location with our friends and family through this blog, without spamming you all through unsolicited emails (did we mention you may have won the Monserattan Lottery!).  If you want to follow us along in the future, you can subscribe to be updated when we post.

From where we dropped anchor, we can see the airport, and watched the 4pm American Airlines flight take off, the exact flight we’ll be on in a week’s time, so long as the customs agent allows us entry.  We scrubbed the boat of any remaining ash, (and popcorn) and popped our last bottle of French Champagne.

Spirits are high and Paul and keep grinning at each as Lizzo blasts on boat speakers and Paul puts a final edit on this piece.

We made it, we’ll go farther, we’re happy.   Cheers.
