My family took a fair amount of road trips growing up (California is a big state) and with my parents we only listened to 3 different things: Sherlock Holmes radio shows, Green Hornet Radio shows, and the Beach Boys.

So it is with great pleasure that I tell everyone that Paul and I have made it to the Florida Keys! (If you are a Beach Boys fan I know that you are singing appropriate songs in your head right now, we have been singing them constantly as well.)

On February 1st we anchored in Key Largo, and Paul and I broke our Dry January fast from alcohol and popped a bottle of champagne. We dressed in shorts, and bathing suits, and took the comforters off the bed. We finally removed the enclosure on our deck and let the sunshine in. The water was teal colored and shallow. We saw dolphins and turtles and a nurse shark and sea grass.
It is unusual to meet a goal and to be rewarded immediately, but that is how it felt: a time of cold ended, a new year started with warmth and sunshine and the kindness that good weather graces people with.
After Key Largo, we kept moving and arrived to Key West- which is where we plan to stay for a bit of time.

Key West is a very interesting and unusual place. It’s small, and has a large transient population of tourists. It also has a high population of stray chickens and cats, which adds to the local bright color.

It seems to be a loud, heavy drinking, musically inclined, drag friendly, and brightly colored place.

Paul’s work keeps him busy on week days, my work with the robots continues, and as per usual, our beautiful boat requires a fair amount of attention and cleaning in order to keep her ship-shape.
Thus, our exploring is limited to weekends. But since arriving we’ve checked out the Hemingway House and its 59 feline residents (many with extra toes), the Green Parrot bar with its free popcorn (a sunny place for shady people), El Siboney Cuban food, Mr Zee’s pizza, Soup-er Happy Noodles, Little Room Jazz Club (which has blues on Tuesday), found a gym to use while we’re on shore (Key West Fitness), and started making plans to visit Dry Tortugas National Park.

There’s a lot of art shows, drag shows, live music, scuba opportunities, and interesting history to explore, including the Truman Little White House (where it appears he got so little work done, Paul and I have a running joke about getting our two hours in before lunch and nap), I think we’ll be quite busy during our stay.

with love from the Florida Keys-
Paul and Lindsay
